TLDR: mediocre aesthetics with ultra-rare finishers. The blood is better then the warhammer-blood but it still looks like the units are covered in spraypaint mixed with marmelade. I bought it myself and the special executions are so rare that ive only seen them a handful of times in my 400h playtime. It's messy business, but there is at least rhyme and reason to it. Total War: Rome II is getting a new DLC pack that brings violent horror to the battlefield. Beheading is super rare and unless you keep searching for it you will never see it. If you dont keep looking at the very same spot all the time the blood vanishes after a while. Often, developers greenlight work on quick-and-dirty DLC as soon as the main game is out the gate in order to keep certain teams (art, for instance) from getting laid off altogether. You have to move your camera to a spot were your soldiers are fighting and stay there for a few seconds. Different teams work on different aspects of the game, and I don't imagine artists have much to do at this point. For one, I doubt the creation of these blood effects detracted from dev time on more important features like bug fixes, balances, and AI. Now, this DLC pack feels kind of like a slap in the face given the historical strategy's rather troubled, er, history, but it's probably not as bad as it could be. Well, if you pay the mighty blood-o-mancers over at Creative Assembly and Sega, anyway. The short version? Rome II now has bloody blood that bloods bloodily. ![]() Dismemberment on selected death animations.Blood VFX on arrow/pilum/javelin impacts.I didnt buy a 3,300 gaming PC to play battles on ultra detail with no blood.
